Nkabinde Enquiry: Adv. Tembeka Ngcukaitobi leads evidence of KwaMaphumulo Taxi Association witness

The Nkabinde Enquiry is investigating whether Advocate Andrew Chauke is fit to continue serving as the Director of Public Prosecutions in South Gauteng.

It resumed on Monday 23 March after a brief hiatus.

Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi SC leads the current witness on behalf of Adv. Chauke. Our Head of Dispute Resolution, Leslie Mkhabela, assisted by Katleho Mohlokoane, acts on behalf of Adv. Chauke.

Evidence was given by the chairperson of the KwaMaphumulo Taxi Association, Mr. Sphamandla Mhlongo.

Mhlongo’s evidence relates to racketeering charges brought against the South African Police Service Organized Crime Unit for incidents between 2008 and 2012.

Mhlongo’s testimony speaks to the foundation of the decision to prosecute former KZN Hawks head Johan Booysen, including records of fatalities within the taxi industry and allegations of crime scene tampering. This evidence is central to determining whether the prosecution was based on the available case docket and established legal processes.
