Basil joined MHA in 2024 as a consultant in the Corporate Law department. He is a specialist in takeovers and mergers and acquisitions, having gained extensive experience working in these fields for over 15 years.

Basil regularly advises clients on the provisions of the Companies Act and its regulations, and previously worked with the Takeover Regulation Panel, where he advised on takeovers and mergers undertaken in terms of the Companies Act as well as in the areas of corporate governance, PFMA-related regulatory matters and financial management.  He also has experience in the negotiation and drafting of complex commercial agreements.

As an expert in the field, Basil has written extensively on takeovers and mergers in Attorneys’ journals and has presented various seminars and Training workshops on the subject to academics, students and practising attorneys. He is a former guest lecturer at Wits University, teaching Takeover Law to post-graduate students pursuing their LLM and H.Dip in Company Law. He also teaches a post-graduate certificate course in Business Rescue as well as a post-graduate programme in Securities and Corporate Law course, where his focus is Takeover Law with UNISA.

Basil has an LLB from the University of Pretoria, an LLM in Corporate Law from UNISA, an MSc in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London as well as an Advanced Certificate in Corporate and Securities law from UNISA where he is currently also pursuing his LLD  in Corporate Law.
